Parenting Quote for better Kids
"A teacher who says, “We are almost at the end of the
class, so anything that you can do to help put the room in order for the
next class will be greatly appreciated!” will get consistently more help
from the students that one who says, “Do this … Move that … Don’t forget
to pick up!”"
"The latest brain research has shown that the brain does
not develop properly when young children watch too much television.
Many believe television and video games are influential in creating violent
tendencies in children. Most of us have experienced how addictive it can
be to channel surf, even when it is impossible to find anything worth watching.
All of this takes time away from building close relationships and learning
valuable life skills."
-- H.
Stephen Glenn & Jane Nelsen Ed.D.
"Lecturing children to be more motivated, or even telling
them to improve their attitude or behavior is not really helpful.
Instead, it is vital to give children very SPECIFIEC information, advice,
encouragement, direction and support. Parents should also avoid comparing
their child grades with those of his classmates. Instead they should
focus on the child’s personal best, in the same way that athletes try to
better their OWN running times. Praise is important but it should
be tied to a child’s effort, behavior or attitude rather than his results."
-- Sandra Davie
"You could easily give your young
son every toy he asks for, every desire of his heart and requires nothing
in return. Many rich parents do. But where would that leave
your child? Greedy, selfish, with no sense of responsibility towards
you or his companions or the world. A self-centered youngster, of
no value to anyone. But enlist him in the Kingdom of Service and
what happens?
He takes a new lease on life.
His interest is awakened. At once he is trying to find some better
way, some bigger things he may do. In short he serves."
*-- Robert
Collier
"Plant in a boy's mind, through the principle of suggestion,
the ambition to become a successful lawyer or doctor or engineer or business
man or financier, and if you plant that suggestion deeply enough, and keep
it there, by repetition, it will begin to move that boy toward the achievement
of the object of that ambition."
*-- Napoleon
Hill
"Students who exerted high levels of will power were more
likely to earn higher grades in their classes and gain admission into more
selective schools. They had fewer absences and spent less time watching
television and more hours on homework. Highly self-disciplined adolescents
outperformed their more impulsive peers on every aceademic-performance
variable."
"Self-discipline predicted academic performance more robustly
than did IQ. Self-discipline also predicted which students would
improve their grades over the course of school year, whereas IQ did not.
Self-discipline has a bigger effect on academic performance than does intellectual
talent."
-- Charles
Duhigg
"Children, as well as adults, tend to take things personally,
and we need to be sensitized to the possible ramifications of thoughtless
remarks. Instead of continually blurting out impatiently, "You're
so stupid!" or "You're so clumsy!" - a pattern that can in some cases powerfully
undermined a child's sense of self-worth - break your own pattern by saying
something like "I'm getting a little peeved with your behavior; come over
here and let's talk about this.""
-- Anthony
Robbins
"The longer this kid goes without failing, the more dreadful
it will come to seem. When you've never coped with failure, it often
comes to seem imperative that you arrange your life so that it never happens.
Since that's not actually possible, you spend a lot of time trying to arrange
away the inevitable."
-- Megan Mcardle
Different Age Groups:
A child becomes a toddler when it starts to walk, before
that it is a baby. Then the child from about 3 or 4 years old (kid is slang)
but that goes on to overlap with young teenagers. I would say a 14 year
old is both a child and a teenager. Young adult - this gets used to describe
maybe 16 to 22 year olds. Adults - in theory refer to everyone over
18, but generally the older teenagers aren't quite seen as full adults. |
